Plans for Socials Content

I have been thinking for a long time about if and how I would want to make a content ecosystem. With my history in technology (specifically social media) policy, I know firsthand the harms that these platforms can cause, but I have also seen the great things that can come from them.

I know that I do not want to be an “influencer” in the sense of drawing in and growing an audience for the sake of just having fans, or using it to over-inflate “Emi Kim” into this caricature. I also am highly uncomfortable with sharing my personal life online. Things like daily/weekly vlogging when there is not a specific or notable event happening are not something I ever see myself being comfortable doing.

That being said, I do want to start creating content. I have been planning this for a while, and am slowly piecing together how this would work, if it can. Below, I’ve listed out the three main types of content I want to make, specifically on YouTube. I do not see myself creating short-form content specifically for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or Instagram Reels. My short-form content will most likely be short snippets of my long-form content used to market the video.

  • I am someone who is really passionate about education. I believe that information is valuable and should be accessible to as many people as possible. That not only includes things like accommodations for disabled people or free/low-cost resources for those with limited expendable income, but also making information understandable at all levels and creating engaging material so that learning doesn’t feel like a chore. I remember spending most of my time on the way to school trying to speed read a summary of a book I was supposed to have read or trying to cram as much information from my textbook as possible before a test. There is a lot of great content that goes over K-12 subjects that are often used as additional material for classes and I used those all the time, but I want to create something different. People’s attention spans are shorter than ever before, especially kids, and they often need multiple stimuli in order to process information.

My plan is to start by explaining the plot, key details, and themes of the most common syllabus required books while doing something like cooking or baking. This makes it so that the information can be presented in a more casual manner, instead of an educational setting like in front of a white board. By creating an environment that is low pressure, by literally inviting you into my kitchen, I can teach, and hopefully create some natural comedy through inevitable kitchen mishaps.

If the English Literature explanations go well, I want to also dive into US and World History.

  • I have a few ideas planned for videos that would give people a better sense of who I am. I have no plans on becoming a personality content creator, but I’m open to the idea of sharing some surface level information.

I also want to make videos where I just follow my interests. I love political commentaries and video essays on random topics. I also enjoy videos where people try new things or challenge themselves in some way. I want to make videos to push myself forward and grow.

  • Acting professionally is very new to me. I have only done one project so far, and I hope to do more. I filmed some stuff during filming and the premiere of K-POPS, so I’m planning on uploading a couple of vlogs. I plan to do the same for any future projects.

I’m not sure how long it will take before I begin uploading on YouTube, but I have begun planning and drafting these videos, and I am excited to see where it goes. I plan to have at least 3 videos ready before I begin uploading, so that I have a good understanding of my system before releasing the content, but my goal is to have my first upload before the end of the year. If not, my K-POPS on-set vlog will be my first upload, which I am currently editing.
